Woodcarving and Painting
Some of the villages of the region practise the craft of wood carving also. The wood is locally available. The main items produced in the craft are folding tables, flour pots and tea mixing barrels. The dragon motif is generally carved on the wood. Other designs such as eight lucky signs in Buddhism are also carved out. The products are painted in different colours. Some times the motif is over raised for making these more attractive. The raising is done by dough prepared out of local clay and glue. The dough is put in a rubber tube with a thin brass nozzle on one end then pressed on the out lined motif, the clay drops when put on the motif gives the embossed look and hence makes the object look beautiful. |
